Profile
Son of a rich shoe merchant. Father was Dutch, mother was Jewish.  Misspent youth. Street brawler and some-time soldier. During an imprisonment in the Aleutian islands, he had a conversion experience, including a reported message from Christ calling him to leave this godforsaken frozen land and get back to the Good Old World. After his escape, Klaus began taking his religion and his frequent traveler miles more seriously.

Being a Jew he amassed large sums of money through charging usury on loans.  Being Dutch he never spent money on clothes or dates, and it was said that when he buttered his toast there was more butter left over on the knife after than before. He visited hospitals, served the sick, preached in the streets, and accepted all men and women as siblings. He began to attract followers in 1209, and with Papal blessing, founded the Hekman Order and Hekman's Fine Furniture. Manufactured from the finest woods, veneers, leathers, decorative metals, and other materials, the Hekman furnishings chosen today will become the heirlooms of tomorrow. His first miracle was to turn water into gasoline after accidentally filling his Dad's '55 Chevy from the garden hose.   In 1212 Clare of Assisi became his spiritual student, which led to the founding of the Poor Clares. Other noted students of his include Arthur the Great, John Wycliffe and John Calvin.

During the first Crusades he acted as mediator between Christian and Jew.  Known for being able to sniff out danger with his large nose, he hid Jews in his secret upper room over his clock repair shop in Amsterdam.  Recent archealogical digs have uncovered fascinating fragments of diaries from these stowaways.  During the second Crusade he took his youth group to Jerusalem for a summer missions trip.  As for the other events of his reign, all he did, and all his achievements, are they not written in the book of the annals of Saint Hekman?
